As an ex student myself, I hope this tip will help.
As first year student - every student is given a place to stay in the hostel for the first year. For 2nd year, unless you've been very active in activities in the hostels, you are able to retain or opt to move out of hostel.
Places to stay - SS2, Section 17, Section 19, University Tower, Pantai Hill. These places ar every near to UM.
Transportation - These places do have bus route, but then be able to travel with more freedom, I'd suggest that one to have a motorbike license. It's very very useful even in the campus!!! Almost everyone uses the bike to travel around. Trust me, you won't regret investing in the license and a bike. It's very easy to get 2nd hand bike or sell it once you've own one as juniors can take over =)
Dangerous route - EVERY where in KL is dangerous. Advise is to be EXTRA cautious and careful especially when you're alone. Be alert and attentive to your surroundings.
I hope these will help to those who's going to further their studies in UM! All the best!

Hello and welcome to my blog. And thanks for your comment. Your information here is definitely useful. I stayed in SS2, Section 17, 21, 20 and 22 before! They are nice places but as you said, always be alert!
